McArthur Funeral Home & Cremation Center History

Architecture drawing of McArthur Funeral Home & Cremation Center in St. George, UT

The McArthur family history in funeral service began in 1843 in Athens, Illinois, where our 3rd great-grandfather, James Mott, built his family funeral business. Today it is one of the oldest continuing businesses in Illinois.

We are proud to carry on the tradition of compassionate and professional funeral service given since that time. Our antique funeral coach pictured on this website reflects that proud heritage.

Our McArthur family arrived in Washington County and St. George in 1861. We have loved and served this community for over 160 years.

The McArthur Funeral Home is new in southern Utah, but our Funeral Director, Jim McArthur, Jr., has many years of experience in the funeral business in the state. He is also an expert embalmer. Jim grew up in St. George. He has a keen understanding of its 21st century diversity as well as its 19th century heritage.

Jim knows how to take care of families in a dignified and supportive way. He understands how grieving families and friends need comfort, reassurance, and direction as they make final arrangements for their loved ones.

This beautiful new facility  the McArthur family built has created an environment that truly feels like home. It will bring comfort and peace to families as they face a challenging time. Many state-of-the-art services are exclusive to the McArthur Funeral Home.

The McArthur family and our funeral home staff offer some of the finest funeral services in Southern Utah. We will work diligently to gain the trust of the community and to be deserving of that reputation and your business.

We are committed to Embracing Your Family as Our Own.
