Owen Merrill Hart
Born March 21,2002 Glendora, CA
Died March 23,2024 Laughlin, NV
Owen, loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, was killed in a tragic accident while on a motorcycle trip with his fiance, Athena and parents, Brad and Melissa Hart of St. George, UT.
He will be missed immensely by his family and friends. His death has left a gigantic hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His kind-hearted, fun, adventurous spirit drew people to him and he was adored by younger family members who couldn’t get enough of his silly, playful side. Always the jokester, his contagious smile and easy-going nature brought joy to everyone around him.
Born in California, he and his older sister, Sara, were practically inseparable, and their special bond continued into adulthood. He was a mischievous child, but his exuberance and laughter were usually enough to get him out of serious trouble. The family moved to St. George where there were numerous occasions to get out and enjoy each other’s company whether camping and fishing, riding ATV’s and dirt bikes or just hanging out watching a movie or playing games. Family time was important and with large families on both of his parent’s sides, everyone has a special memory of Owen- whether at the beach, desert, lake or mountains.
He attended Pine View HS where he wasn’t the most motivated student, but enjoyed playing football and hanging with his friends. When he did put his attention to something, he gave it his all and wasn’t afraid of a challenge. After a lot of karate classes, he obtained a second-degree black belt. Also a prolific online gamer, his generous attitude brought him more friends in the virtual world, as well. He graduated from Millcreek HS and it was there he met his future girlfriend, partner and fiance, Athena Taylor. After dating for 4 years, Owen proposed last Christmas and they were in the process of planning their wedding and future together.
He really hit his stride a couple of years ago; growing into a more mature, responsible young adult. His Dad taught him to drive trucks and he applied himself, worked hard and received his CDL in 2022. He was extremely proud when he got a job working with Brad at Whitaker Construction. They made a great team.
His love of riding started with BMX bikes, progressed to ATV’s and dirt bikes and ultimately led to his first Harley Davidson. The whole family participated in weekend rides and traveled with a great group of friends and co-workers. They visited many beautiful parts of the west and even attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Owen was preceded in death by grandfathers, Donald Hart and Dave McLachlan.
Survived by his parents, sister, Grandparents Barbara (Gary) Redmond, Dottie Mclachlan, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who already miss him.
