Neil L. Hansen, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 2nd at the Meadows Memory Care, St. George, Utah, after struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. Neil was born on August 9, 1950 in Rigby, Idaho to Afton Elwin and Ruth Grover Hansen, the third child of four siblings. He attended Archer Elementary School, and graduated from Madison High School, Rexburg, in 1968. He then attended Ricks College, graduating from BYU Provo with a BA in Broadcasting/Marketing/PR in 1974. Neil served an LDS mission in Uruguay, Spanish speaking, from 1970-1972. He met his bride of 50 years, Cathy Knight, at BYU, and they were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 12, 1974. They were blessed with five wonderful children: Lane, Lisa, Steve, Stacie and Nathan. Neil and Cathy share 17 grandchildren currently.
Neil was employed by KID TV, Idaho Falls, 1974-1980, Eastern Idaho Vo-Tech College, Idaho Falls, 1980-1985, Reid Communications, SLC, Utah, 1985-1988, and Weir International Pump Systems, SLC, 1988-2015, as the Marketing/Advertising Director. Neil was faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in multiple ward and stake callings. He and Cathy served two local Spanish-speaking missions in Riverton, Utah and Santa Clara, Utah.
Neil is survived by his wife, Cathy, and their children: Lane (Heather) Hansen, Lisa (Brent) Hutchings, Steve (Courtney) Hansen, Stacie (Glenn) Cowan, and Nathan Hansen, as well as 16 grandchildren, and siblings Leon Hansen, Dale (Ruth) Hansen and J’Lee (Lee) Bennett. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 infant siblings, and a grandson, Daniel Carl Hutchings.
A celebration of Neil’s life will be held on Thursday, March 20, at 1:00 pm in the Washington Fields LDS 18th Ward Chapel on 3000 E. and Sandia Rd., St. George, Utah. Two viewings will be held; the first on Wednesday, March 19 from 5:00-7:00 pm for local friends and family, at the McArthur Funeral Home, 160 W. 700 S., St. George, UT 84770, and the second, for out of town guests, just before the service at the Ward Building from 12:00-12:40 pm.
