Mark Johnson

Mark Andrew Johnson of St. George, Utah (age 46) passed away on September 27, 2024, as the result of an aviation accident in Provo, Utah. Mark was born on May 31, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Charles William Johnson and Eleanor Law Johnson and was the youngest of nine children.

Mark grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from Western High School in 1995. After graduation, Mark served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Brazil. Upon his return, he married the love-of his life, Amy Ewell, in the Las Vegas, Nevada LDS Temple in February 2000.

Mark and Amy were blessed with six beautiful and talented children: Mark Howard Johnson (Brooke); Ellie Johnson Barlow (Conner); Adam Ewell Johnson; Preston Larry Johnson; Logan Charles Johnson and Claire Elizabeth Johnson.

Mark graduated from UNLV with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and created a successful travel and transportation business in Las Vegas.

Adventure was Mark’s passion, and he traveled the world seeking out the most beautiful and exciting places and experiences. In the past few years, he started and co-owned a boutique travel business with his sister, Ruthie Mummey, wherein they used their remarkable skills to show the world to their family, friends and clients. Some of Mark’s favorite times were the opportunities he had to travel with Amy and his children as they explored Hawaii, Africa, Europe and many other fun and interesting places.

Service to others through his Church responsibilities and in business was Mark’s calling card. He was smart, kind, hard-working and honest as those who had any contact with him can confirm. He was quiet yet emotionally strong and dedicated. His contribution to a cause was always done in a ‘behind the scenes” way as he never looked to be the center of attention. However, no one can deny his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor which was ever-present.

Of course, Mark’s greatest joy was time with his family. He was a caring and compassionate husband, and a hands-on father who was always there to give support, love, laughter and hugs to his precious children. Trips to the ice cream store, helping with homework, making milkshakes, and enjoying the kid’s sports and activities was always a highlight. His example of a loving father will be one of his many gifts left to future generations.

Mark loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and shared his knowledge and testimony with those around him throughout his life, especially with his family.

He is survived by this mother, Eleanor Johnson; his siblings: Ted (Debbie) Johnson; Ruth (Blair) Mummey; David (Kathryn) Johnson; Jean (Cray) Clark; Robert (Judith) Johnson; Steve (Kim) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Charlene Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him.

Mark was preceded in death by his father (Charles W. Johnson); brothers (Howard William Johnson) and (Paul G Johnson).

A memorial service will be held on October 4, 2024, 10:00 am (MST) at the LDS Church, 450 W. 3650 S, Washington, Utah. There will be no viewing or pre-funeral services. A Zoom link can be accessed by contacting any member of the immediate family.

Mark was a special irreplaceable gift to all of us and will be greatly missed. His spirit and example of love, compassion, and humor will never be forgotten. We love you Mark. Til we meet again.
