Larry Gordon Hicks passed away November 10, 2024, at 77 years of age. In St. George, Utah. Larry
was born March 28, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Salt Lake with his two brothers Robert
and David. His sister Ann was born 14 years after Larry. He attended Beacon Heights Elementary,
Hillside Jr. High and Highland High. He graduated in 1965 and went with his friends to the College of
Eastern Utah in Price. With the draft in 1966, he joined the Army for three years and stayed in the
States for 2. He then went to West Germany and calibrated radar stations up and down the border
between West and East Germany. He finished his tour of duty in 1969 and met “his soul mate” Darlene
(Dolly) Stringham. They were married in 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended the University of
Utah in Finance and Economics and started his new business called Gold Hill Construction. He built
homes, apartments, a small subdivision, and became a Landlord over several apartment buildings. In
1988 he moved his family to Southern California to work for John Hathaway in Construction. In 1995
due to the recession he worked in Russia, 40 miles outside of Moscow, building homes. He returned and
traveled back and forth from Corona, CA to Midvale, Utah each month to take care of his apartments. In
2016 he sold all of his apartments and the family home and moved with his wife Dolly to St. George,
Utah. Here he was half way between his daughter’s family in South Jordan, Utah and his two sons’
homes in Corona, CA and El Segundo CA. In St. George he served a Senior Mission with his wife, for the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the St. George Temple and then another year as a Senior
Missionary couple working with the young missionaries of the Church. He loved teaching Primary each
Sunday with his wife. He loved plants, trees, and flowers and spent 8 years beautifying his acre of
property with plants, fruit trees and pines. He loved the outdoors and especially liked taking friends and
family for rides on the quads at the sand dunes nearby. He always had a story or a joke to tell and loved
helping people with his expertise. He will be missed tremendously. Larry is survived by his wife Darlene NeRee Stringham Hicks, his children Lisa (Claude), Loren (Narges) and Eric (Vanessa) . Also, his grandchildren Christian (18) Aidan (17) Alex (17)Payton (16) Logan (15) and Hudson (19 months). His two brothers Robert (Michelle) , David (Julie), and his sister Ann.
