Jimmie Humphries graduated from life on October 6, 2024 at the age of 76. Jimmie, born April 2,1948 to Afton Isom Humphries and Clara Spendlove Humphries had an adventure filled childhood growing up in Hurricane, Utah with his parents and eleven siblings. As the “baby boy” Jim had plenty of help getting into mischief or up to shenanigans with his siblings and neighborhood friends. He loved his brothers and sisters dearly and had so many wonderful memories with them growing up in Hurricane. After graduating from Hurricane High School in 1966, Jim met Margaret Pamela Foster. After their first meeting he told his friends, “that’s the girl I’m going to marry!”. On October 18,1968, he did just that. Together, Jim and Pam started the adventure that would lead to 56 years of marriage, four children and 17 grandchildren. Jim’s first years of marriage brought a lot of change. Moves, jobs, and kids, finally settling his family in Hurricane. Before starting his family, in 1966, Jim joined the Utah Army National Guard 2/222 FA. He served with his brothers Randy and Roger. Jim was a gun chief and with Randy represented their unit in the Artillery Olympics, winning them 3 different years. Jim had an opportunity to join the Air Force Reserves unit for 8 months and traveled to Crete for training. He loved Crete and would often share his experiences from that trip. Jim was proud of the 28 years he was able to serve his country and the men with which he was able to serve. In 1968, Jim began his career with Utah Department of Transportation on the paint crew in Cedar City, Utah. He commuted for 3 years before joining the maintenance crew in Hurricane. Jim was a hard worker and perfectionist when it came to his work with an eye for detail in all his projects. He had the cleanest vehicle in the shed. This level of excellence can be seen on the Utah license plate murals he created on many of the Southern Utah maintenance sheds. Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a very spiritual man and enjoyed learning anything that had to do with Church history or the Savior. In July 1993, Jim and Pam, along with their 4 children, were Sealed for Time and all Eternity in the St. George temple. Jim believed deeply in the Plan of Salvation and reuniting with loved ones in the afterlife. That belief has been a blessing. In retirement, Jim was able to do some of the things he loved. He and Pam were able to travel to Hawaii, Alaska and many other places in the United States. In 2019, Jim and Pam were able to take some of their children and grandchildren on an Alaskan cruise. We all had so much fun exploring Alaska, spending time together and eating crab. Jim always had an artistic eye. Whether it was wearing sharp looking clothes, painting beautiful winter scenery on our front window at Christmas, or creating beautifully landscaped yards, Jim always went the extra mile. He became enamored with the television painter Bob Ross and his program. He started painting along with the program and realized how natural it was for him. Ultimately, he became a certified Bob Ross painting instructor. As in many other areas of his life, Jim was generous with this gift, sharing his paintings with everyone he met. He continued to paint until he could no longer hold his paint brush, needing to finish just one more. If you have one of his paintings, know that he loved you. Jim bought a John Deere tractor to “help” at their Toquerville property. That tractor and dad spent countless hours together. Teaching grandkids how to drive, helping neighbors and family to make their yard chores easier, moving gravel at his cedar mountain property so his family wouldn’t get stuck in the mud are just a few of things he did with that tractor. Most of all, he used that tractor to show his love to friends and family. Jimmie is survived by his wife Pam; his children Trevor (Suann) Humphries, Victoria (Oscar) Colõn, Kelly (Tiffany) Humphries, Katresa (Scott) Echols; his Grandchildren Jorge (Tiffany), Xavier, Sophia, Gabby Colõn, Jesse (Bailey), Riter (Katelyn), Ben, Jennifer Humphries, Kennan, Jessica, Sawyer, Maximus, Alizay Humphries, Eric Moss, Izabella, Boone Echols; his brothers and sisters, Buck (Dawn) Humphries, Marian (Glen) Starr, Bud (Sadie) Humphries, Glenwood (Diana) Humphries, Anita Bringhurst, Gail Humphries, Janice and Joe Peacock, Craig (Ethelyn) Humphries, Elva Roberts, Lajuana (Ken) Parker, Brady (Clare) Foster, Mike (Tracie) Foster, Theresa (Jed) Jensen, Josie Syammach. Greeted in Heaven by his parents Afton and Clara Humphries, mother and father-in-law Maggie and Irwin Foster, brothers Roy (Kathrine) Humphries, Randy Humphries, Roger Humphries, Howard Bringhurst, Ray Roberts, Mustafa Syammach and granddaughter Mekala Humphries. Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to all who helped in so many ways to care for and uplift our Dad from wonderful friends, family and neighbors during the last year.
