Jared Summerville, age 44 years old passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 15th in St. George, UT. He was born on August 7, 1980, in Louisiana. He was a faithful servant of our Heavenly Father and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After high school he chose to serve a 2-year mission and was called to serve in the Canary Islands in Spain. He served in many callings which included working with the young men, serving in the branch presidency, serving in the bishopric, high council, and too many others to list. He loved to serve the members of the church and anyone else he came into contact with. He had a talent for being able to strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like they were the most important person in the room. Jared earned his MBA and worked for more than twenty years in the corporate banking world. While he enjoyed it, he felt there was something missing. He decided to leave the corporate world behind and became the owner of his own massage therapy business. He also co-owned a hyperbaric chamber business which brought meaning and purpose to a job he loved. He was well respected as a manager and an employer.
Jared loved the outdoors and loved to explore all that St. George has to offer. He loved going on hikes and seeing the beauty surrounding him. He often said he had to pinch himself to make sure what we consider our backyard wasn’t a just a dream. Arin and Jared both agreed, “Moving was one of the best decisions we made as a married couple for our family.”
Jared’s greatest accomplishment, among many, was the role of being a dad. He was the proud father of his two boys, Mason James and Preston Charles. He loved going and watching them play and improving week to week in their sports. Mason plays football and Preston is their soccer player. Jared was a natural father and decided from an early age he would break the cycle and make sure his kids knew they mattered more to him than anything else. He was also a loving and supportive husband who was proud to be married to a nurse with a background in pediatrics. He said he never had to worry about his kids because they were in good hands. One memory that vividly stands out and speaks volumes to what kind of father he was, was right after their oldest son was born. He took the maximum paternity leave and nightly for 4-6 weeks, every time the baby woke up in the middle of the night, he would be the first one up to change him, give him over to be fed, and then take him back and rock him back to sleep so I could sleep. He told Arin, “You carried him for 9 months; this is the least I can do and this is when we bond”
Jared is survived by his wife of 16 years, Arin Rich Summerville and his two boys Mason James, 14 years old, and Preston Charles 11 years old, and too many in-laws and nieces and nephews to mention. He is also survived by his parents, older brother, two older sisters and many more nieces and nephews.
He has left a void that will never be filled but we know he is no longer suffering from his worldly pain and will see him again because of the love our our Heavenly father.
We have been humbled, overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for all of the love and support shown by so many.
In lieu of flowers please consider contributing the boy’s college funds.
