Ilauna Denise Hoover “Deeni” September 16, 1955 – February 23, 2025
On February 23, 2025, Ilauna Denise Hoover, affectionately known as Deeni, decided it was time to take her well-earned rest—surrounded, of course, by her loving husband, Mark, of fifty years and her four devoted children. We are sure she’d remind us that 50 years of marriage is a very long time, but she and Mark made it look effortless - -twice. Per her wishes, she will be cremated—because, as she often joked, she was too stubborn to let anyone put her in a box. And she URNed it.
Born on September 16, 1955, Deeni spent her life devoted to family, proving time and time again that she had the patience of a saint (especially when raising her four kids). She was grandmother to eleven and a great-grandmother to two—with a third on the way—and she made sure each one knew they were her favorite. She created a safe place for her grand children to grow and let their individual light shine all while nurturing their creativity.
Deeni had a way of making everyone feel special, often with a sarcastic remark followed by the warmest hug. Her home was always open, her advice was always heartfelt and wise. She had a sharp wit, a big heart, and an unmatched ability to turn even life’s toughest moments into teachable lessons.
Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and a whole lot of unforgettable one-liners. Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will live on in the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the stubborn streak she passed down to her children and grandchildren. We will miss her every day, but in true Deeni fashion, we’ll keep laughing, loving, and probably arguing over who she really loved most.
Throughout her life, she wore many hats—sometimes quite literally—but the one her children lovingly called her most was Doctor Mom. Whether it was fixing a scraped knee, or mending a broken heart, she always had the perfect remedy. Her family will continue to carry her love in their hearts—and probably hear her voice in their heads, reminding them, “Don’t take no crap from anyone,” and, most importantly, that they are deeply loved.
A celebration of Deeni’s life will be held at McArthur Funeral Home in St. George, Utah, on March 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by sharing a cherished story—especially the funny ones. She would’ve wanted it that way.
