Frederick Ralph Worlton (Fred) completed his mortal journey on October 20, 2024. Fred was born to Ralph and Maurine Worlton in Santa Monica, California, on March 19, 1939. He grew up in Lehi, Utah. He graduated from Lehi High School and participated in the football, basketball, and track teams.
Following high school, Fred served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New England States mission. Upon his return, he met Helen Jean Abel. They were married in the Manti Temple on February 14, 1963.
Professionally, Fred was an educator. He graduated from BYU and began working as a Math Teacher in the Jordan School District. He returned to school at Oklahoma State University, earning a graduate degree in mathematics education. Later, he earned a doctorate in education from the University of Utah. In addition to teaching, Fred was a Principal at Mount Jordan Junior High School, and Alta High School. He worked for many years as the assistant superintendent of the Jordan School District.
In 2000, Fred met and married Doniece Shirzad. He served as the bishop of a young singles ward in Sandy, Utah, and a high council representative assigned to a young married ward in St. George, Utah.
Fred and Doniece were blessed to serve four missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: first in Tonga, then in Kirtland, Ohio, Washington, D.C., and Fargo, North Dakota. They often served missions related to education.
He served again in the bishopric and as a high priest group leader in his St. George ward.
Fred loved golf and had many close friendships nurtured by their shared love of the game. He is loved and remembered by many friends and family members.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean Abel Worlton (July 22, 1999). is survived by his wife, Doniece; his brothers, Tom (Marsha) and Bob (Vicky); his daughter, Pamela (Anthony) Clayson; step-son, Kayvon Shirzad; step-daughters, Desire’ (Mark) Shirzad and Donya Shirzad. Grandchildren Sara (Reese) Bisel, Tyler Clayson, Cameron Skeen, Mairyn (Jared) Nielsen, Ellyse Shirzad, Katrielle Skeen, Joshua Skeen, and Alex Bowlby. Great grandchildren, Lucas, Miles, Sage, and Lina.
We give special thanks to Raven Butler for her untiring friendship and care for him over several years. We also thank Zion’s Way Hospice and Meadows Memory Care personnel who lovingly cared for him in the final weeks of his life.
