Brenda Kathryn Thompson (Johnson) 1945 to 2024

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with dementia.

Brenda was born in Huntington, West Virginia on December 28, 1945, to Boyd L. and Dorothy E. (Cruise) Johnson. Brenda graduated from Huntington High School in 1963. While attending Huntington High, she was active in cheer leading, home economics and enjoyed working in her father’s Ben Franklin store.

In 1967, Brenda moved to Salt Lake City, met the love of her life, and married US Army Corporal Ralph J. Thompson in the Salt Lake City Temple. Shortly thereafter they moved to the US Army Base located in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan and started their family. Two years later, they moved to Sandy, Utah. After Sandy, Utah, the family enjoyed moves to Lehi, Utah, Grand Island, Nebraska and eventually settled in Salt Lake City, Utah and continued to grow their family. After raising their family, Brenda and Ralph built their dream home in Centerville, Utah, where they lived for ten years until they retired to Gunlock, Utah.

As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Brenda served in a myriad of callings: primary teacher, den mother, Relief Society counselor, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society teacher and librarian. Brenda served a two year mission as a Church-service missionary in the LDS Employment Center in Centerville, Utah.

Brenda enjoyed many professional endeavors. The job she loved the most was working at and directing the Utah Food Bank for twenty plus years. She loved being a mom, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and a great grandmother.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph Thompson, daughter Kim (Naldo) Bravo, son Chris (Lucia) Thompson, daughter Danni (Corbin) Fox and Buffy (Koby) Taylor as well as 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Boyd Lester Johnson and Dorothy Ernestine Johnson (Cruise) and her brother Dale Lee Johnson.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to the staff of Dixie Hospice, St. George, Utah.
